Our 7-Day High Country Hunt in renowned Unit 76 includes 5 full days of hunting with a travel day on each end, giving hunters the time to settle in, hunt hard, and fully enjoy an authentic backcountry experience.
This hunt is designed for those seeking a true wilderness hunt in some of the most scenic and productive country in Colorado. From dark timber and high ridges to open basins and secluded drainages, Unit 76 offers exceptional habitat and outstanding opportunity for serious hunters. In 2013 Unit 76 was burned by the West Fork and Papoose fires; since then the vegetation has flourished and we now believe the area hosts one of the healthiest herds in the state.

Logistics:
7 Day High Country Hunt includes:
- One day in, one day out, five full days of hunting
- Transport to your remote camp is provided via saddle and a dedicated pack string. Our wranglers handle the heavy lifting for your arrival and departure; typically, all hunting from the camp is conducted on foot to maximize your stealth and success in the field.
- Fully equipped camp setup including wall tents, cots, chairs, wood stove, and plenty of firewood; hunters need only bring their personal items and sleeping bags
- Full-time camp cook provides three meals a day
- Hunters need to bring their rifle, ammunition, bow, arrows, etc. Hunting Guide provides game bags
- Hunting Guide can assist with quartering and preparing animal for transport
- A recommended gear list will be provided upon booking.
Spike Camps
Hunters on fully guided hunts may choose to break away from base camp and spend part of / or the entire hunt in a spike camp for a more remote backcountry experience. Longridge Outfitters provides spike camps as needed during fully guided hunts, allowing hunters to stay deep within targeted hunting areas and maximize time in productive country.
Spike camps are smaller, minimalist camps with fewer amenities than base camp, but they offer the clear advantage of being positioned in the heart of prime hunting terrain. Transport to your remote camp is provided via saddle and a dedicated pack string. Our wranglers handle the heavy lifting for your arrival and departure. All hunting from the camp is conducted on foot to maximize your stealth and success in the field.
Day Hunts
Longridge Outfitters also offers day hunts in productive hunting areas conveniently accessed by foot or horseback from Freemon’s Guest Ranch. This option is especially well-suited for hunters drawing later seasons, when snow conditions may limit access to deeper backcountry camps.

Hunting bookings should be made as early as possible. We typically require 50% deposit at booking, and full payment 20 days prior to arrival. Transportation can be provided from either Gunnison or Alamosa airports to our ranch headquarters outside of Creede. Additional information concerning hunting costs, license fees, application and permit drawing information and what necessary equipment to bring will be provided upon request.
